That's funny, even I don't hear much about my religion every day, especially not from our government, which is variously trying to suck up to liberal or conservative Christians. You don't think it is a real "religion"? We don't persecute enough people for you? Or we're too proficient with science? We call ourselves a religion, we have a generally unified system of belief, we have clerics who perform wedding ceremonies, funerary rites and hold spiritual council with congregates in legally protected confidence. Just because our male priests don't wear dresses and big hats, doesn't invalidate our claim that we are a religion.

I hear about your "religion" every day in all sorts of government backdrops. I also see the dissemination of "your" ideas everywhere. I also think that freedom of speech should not be thwarted by someone saying "don't use my room" to do it because it's attached to the "government". Now, all of a sudden the government is not about freedom at all...is it?!

I don't want freedom from religion, I have a religion. Some religions have many gods, yours has one, mine has one less than that. It's still my religion and neither mine, yours, nor anyone else's belongs in a public school, funded by tax payer dollars. No one is disputing the fact that the group in question can believe and preach that it is sinful for school girls to show their bottoms, legs, chests, arms or even faces (depending on exactly how ashamed they happen to be with the human body). The issue is whether it is appropriate, or indeed legal, for them to disseminate such ideas in publicly funded fora, like public schools. So, your point is a red herring.

It seems the event was a christian group trying to get girls not to dress like whores.

It seems a little pointless to hate Tom Cruise. He's an idiot...
People who convert to scientology because of him are idiots. I have no interest in reading about him or scientology.
I could start a better religion... hell, Heinlein already did.

Christian or not....it's freedom OF religion, not freedom FROM religion...even though what we are talking about is expression of faith, not religion.

Seems to me like it was a win/win situation. Religious functions belong in the private sector, not our schools. The functions organizers got free press and greater attendance (win) and the constitution was upheld by disallowing religious functions in the public (by this I mean tax-funded) arena.
BTW, very few of our founding fathers were Christian. Thomas Jefferson was a Deist, I think Madison was also. Thomas Paine was an avowed atheist. Ben Franklin was smart enough to contribute to every church (and synagogue) building fund in Penn., but was an active member in the Hellfire club. Abraham Lincoln (not a FF but still one our nation's greatest men) stated "Christianity is not my religion and the Bible is not my book". George Washington was a Christian, but explicitly stated in the Treaty of Tripoli that America was NOT a Christian nation, but one in which people had freedom of conscience.
Yay for the 1st Ammendment!

I completely feel that foods that we are presented with come from our intelligence and ability to overcome nature. God may have given us the ability to think and created us, but god does not supply us with our food. We do! This just seems to me that hindu people take this to an extreme and I think it is crazy!

Bigbuckhunter, why do you feel so strongly about this issue? I do not understand. Have you no respect for God or the foods that he provides us with.
